Pakistan continue to spring up surprises as their team for the ICC World Twenty20 was unveiled much ahead of the deadline.
They have named the same squad for the T20s against Australia as well as for the ICC tournament, with Mohammad Hafeez leading the team. Hafeez suffered a defeat in his debut series as captain against Sri Lanka.
It may be a result of that that the selectors have opted for experience over youth. Abdul Razzaq, Imran Nazir, and Kamran Akmal are amongst a host of names making their comebacks.
The trio has not played a T20 international in more than 18 months. Yasir Arafat and Mohammad Sami also get another chance despite repeated failures while young left-arm spinner Raza Hassan was surprisingly picked ahead of Abdur Rehman to partner Saeed Ajmal.
Shahid Afridi and Sohail Tanvir are the other all-rounders while Nasir Jamshed has been selected after recovering from yet another injury.
Pakistan squad for World T20 2012: Mohammad Hafeez (capt), Imran Nazir, Nasir Jamshed, Kamran Akmal (wk), Asad Shafiq, Shoaib Malik, Abdul Razzaq, Shahid Afridi, Yasir Arafat, Umar Akmal, Saeed Ajmal, Raza Hasan, Umar Gul, Mohammad Sami, Sohail Tanvir
Ross Taylor will lead the New Zealand side in the World Twenty20 in Sri Lanka, it was announced together with the rest of the names that make up the squad.
The most notable change in the squad was the return of fast bowler Adam Milne who last played for the national team in December 2010.
Milne is regarded as one of the fastest bowlers the country has produced, in the league of Shane Bond.
As expected, James Franklin was included in the team despite not being a part of the two T20 matches in Florida against West Indies.
Brendon McCullum and Martin Guptill will open the innings as they look to arrest the team’s woeful slide in recent months.
Daniel Vettori, former captain, is also back in the reckoning despite a groin injury currently keeping him out. Tim Southee will lead the bowling attack and also boasts of one of the best T20 bowling figures.
