Juno Temple: Nude scenes are complex

Juno Temple says nudity in films isn’t always 'sexy'.

The British actress has so far had a varied career appearing in films including Atonement, The Other Boleyn Girl and Year One.

She is starring in upcoming movies The Three Musketeers and The Dark Knight Rises.

Juno understands the importance of the naked form in film.

'I believe that nudity is important sometimes, but not necessarily to be sexy, you know?' she mused in an interview with Total Film magazine. 'There are certain scenes where it’s really necessary and others where you don’t need to bother. Sometimes it can make you feel vulnerable, or brand new or gross or excited. There are a lot of different things behind nudity.'

Juno thinks directors need to choose their naked scenes carefully. The 22-year-old thinks being nude doesn’t make a movie credible.

'You know what’s important about picking the right moments with nudity? If it’s gratuitous, no-one’s going to care about the movie, they’re just going to care about the nudity,' she added. 'Like, ‘Oh yeah!’ Or be like, ‘What the f**k was she doing?’

'I think you need to pick and choose and be careful.'

Juno is thrilled that she’s starring in The Three Musketeers, because her 11-year-old brother is able to watch it. She says the romantic adventure film was a joy to film.

'The script was so funny, it made me feel good. And I wanted to be part of a feel-good movie that my little brother could see,' she explained.

'He’s 11 and he hasn’t been able to see a lot of my independent films...'
