Karachi: PIA plane makes emergency landing after catching fire

KARACHI: A Dubai-bound passenger flight of Pakistan International Airline (PIA), PK 213, made an emergency landing at Karachi airport after one of its engines caught fire minutes after taking off from here, Geo News reported Sunday.

According to PIA spokesman Mashoor Tajwar, all the 62 people on board, including 54 passengers and plane's crew, remained safe in the incident.

He said a team of experts and engineers has started the plane’s inspection from various aspects.

Earlier, the control tower issued a red alert, as preparations were made for the plane’s emergency landing at Karachi airport.

The initial report of a plane flying low came from eye witnesses from Korangi area. They also reported witnessing one of the wings of the plane being on fire, causing panic among the area people.

According to sources, arrangements have been made to accommodate the passengers in another flight which is scheduled to take off at 1:30 AM (Monday) for Dubai.
