Make a Royal Mint

Make a Royal Mint

Wow – apparently royal wedding revellers are going to be spending a whopping £480m on celebrations and memorabilia. According to a survey carried out this week most of this will be spent on stocking up on extra food and drink (getting priorities right obviously), with of course some of us splashing out on last minute bunting and maybe a union jack bauble or two.

Working out at an average of £29 extra per person it seems that most of us will be spending more than we would on an average Friday. But is there a way you can make any of that back??? Hmm there are some canny Londoners cashing in on the wedding and instead of forking out are raking it back in.

Look at Park At My House – a site that matches up empty car spaces and garages for rent in town so that wedding visitors have somewhere safe to park in an already crowded city with few free spaces. Apparently loads have people have booked in for the 29th April already. What a great idea! Don’t forget it’s the Olympics next year too…

If you are going away for the weekend then why not rent your home out to a visitor coming over for the big day. Sites like Airbnb hook up empty flats and houses with suitable tourists and the royal wedding has been a key time!

You’ll also get a readymade house-sitter which means you are less likely to fall victim to a burglary… AXA, one of the UK’s largest home insurers, predicts a potentially huge surge in burglaries and accidental damage insurance claims next month as over four in ten of us will be away from our homes over the wedding weekend while a further 21% of us will be opening our doors to family and friends, providing burglars with perfect conditions for a very lucrative weekend. So keep an eye on your valuables and make sure you don’t end up spending more than the estimated £29 on your festivities…

Of course the one person making the most out of the royal wedding will be Kate herself… upon marriage (apart from the jewels and dowery) she will be living in Clarence House valued by Zoopla at over £47m, have the run of Windsor Castle valued at £171m and eventually take up residence at Buckingham Palace worth an eye-popping £982m – a property portfolio surely the envy of any newlywed with an average starter home worth £137,000. Ker-ching!
