Contrasting Colors

Contrasting Colors

Changing the color of a room can alter its appearance dramatically.

Colors can change the mood of the room, highlight its good points and obscure its bad ones.

Contrasting colors are created by mixing opposite colors in different concentrations to achieve a balance of tones. These colors when used together one color always gives the impression of being warm and the other of being cool.

Red with green, blue with orange, yellow with violet, these are contrasting schemes. Such combinations are bold, dramatic and visually exciting.

A room that uses a contrasting scheme doesn't have to be bold and bright; contrasting pastels or muted colors can produce an equally effective mixture, and may be better suited to a bedroom or study where a calm mood is called for.

Red and green are the predominant contrasting colors in this scheme, with yellow adding to the excitement and vibrancy .Color need not to be confined to the permanent features of the room .the green chest of drawers takes its cue from the skirting board and contrasts strongly with the striped wall behind it, and also with the bright yellow floor. Touches of purple and orange contribute happily to the whole effect.

A more subdued contrast has been achieved by using the complementary colors purple and yellow green for the larger surface in the room .Small amounts of blue red and yellow have been used for emphasis.

The various architectural features of this modern interior have been brought together by the use of an acid yellow -green. Contrast is provided by the blue green screen and the red of the panel, which is echoed in the cushion.

The effect is produced by both natural and artificial light, which soften the color on which they fall, lightening the tone. The absence of direct light in other areas makes the color appear much deeper.
