Alzheimer's: an important discovery
During a study carried out on laboratory mice, researchers discovered that the protein Reelin interacts with beta amyloid in the brain, a peptide implicated in Alzheimer's disease. This observation opens the way towards a new strategy in treating this disease.
The beta amyloid blocks synaptic transmission. It seems that this action could be artificially counterbalanced by Reelin, which stimulates communication between neurones.
