Trip hop rises from its ashes

Trip hop, the musical genre that appeared in the 90s in Bristol, is making a return to the forefront of the scene. After last year's release of the Portishead album "Third", the group's leader Geoff Barrow has created a parallel project with his friends Billy Fuller and Matt Williams. Working under the name Beak, the trio have just turned in their debut eponymous album, which will be released on 20th October on Invada Records. Recording was completed in just 12 days, which is a real feat for the perfectionist Geoff Barrow!

Beak made the decision to fully refrain from overdubbing (recording in successive layers), to allow them to create new sounds in complete freedom. Does this mean that trip hop is back up-to-date?
