The Clash: London Calling again!
If any album has left a durable mark on pop music history, it's "London Calling" by The Clash. Released on 14th December 1979, this double vinyl LP is today considered to contain all the elements that constitute the essence of rock. The group's flamboyant figurehead was the iconic singer Joe Strummer (died 2002), who virtually invented Green Day 25 years before "American Idiot"! To celebrate the 30th anniversary of "London Calling", the surviving members of the London band are reissuing the album in December, with an array of bonuses to be announced in the next few weeks.
In addition, the Royal Mail is joining in with the celebrations in its own way, by issuing a postage stamp on 7th January 2010 featuring the sleeve of "London Calling".
