New posthumous album adds to debate
The voice of late Boyzone member Stephen Gately has been miraculously revived for an album by the boyband that will pay tribute to the singer. Gately died on 10th October but sings on two of the songs, according to his Boyzone colleagues.
Some will claim that this is a media stunt following Stephen's tragic death, but the recordings took place before he died. Boyzone frontman Ronan Keating has revealed that the evening before his death, Stephen had sent him an SMS expressing his joy and impatience over the new album's release.
Business carried out on the back of an artist's death is a controversial topic at the moment, particularly after the events surrounding Michael Jackson. But while such commercial activity seems ethically dubious, it is important to encourage the positive aspects, such as contributing to the memory of the artist and making unreleased material available to fans.
