Jamie Lynn Spears gives birth

Britney Spears sister Jamie Lynn has this morning given birth to a baby girl and has named the child Maddie Briann, according to family friends.

Spears, 17, reportedly gave birth about at a hospital in Mississippi, near her Louisiana hometown.

Jamie Lynn's more famous elder sister, father Jamie and brother Bryan flew to Louisiana to help prepare for the birth.

Jamie Lynn Spears was 16 when she announced her pregnancy last December, provoking a tabloid firestorm in the US about teenage pregnancy.

As a children's TV star, her pregnancy unleashed questions about its impact on her young viewers, Spears announced her engagement to the baby's father, 19-year-old Casey Aldridge, in March.
