Lama Hatem is exclusively interviewed by the BBC London.
The radio interview with the sizzling Arabic rising star Lama Hatem was broadcasted by the BBC on Thursday, October 8th. 2009 and discussed the successful release of Lama’s debut album, the reason for the choice of title “3tih 7ouriatouh” and the artistic message.
Lama stated, “the artistic message is not enough, when artists only sing about love and understanding, while ignoring the challenges in the environment around them”.
Lama added, “it is not about making songs or music, but about how we express ourselves”.
The debut album of Lama Hatem “3thih 7ouriatouh” triggered International attention, first by CNN and now by the BBC, as not only the mix of three languages is widely interpreted as a bridge of cultures and a dialogue between societies, but as the music includes different genres and instruments in a contemporary setting, that have attracted a wide section of the young audience across the Arab world.
When asked about the social involvement of other artists in the Middle East in general, Lama mentioned the “Arabic Conscious Song”, that she noted to have been addressed to the Arab world, rather than to the outside world.
“It is not enough to make songs for ourselves”. “Music is a peaceful tool to communicate and to strengthen the understanding within, but also between cultures and nations”.
The BBC discussed Lama’s meeting with Michael Jackson and John Legend, as well as their involvement in charity work.
Lama was also invited to sing life on air and chose a part of her song “La2ena Habibna”, a love song of her current Album, that talks about challenges many young couples might face in today’s modern life.
