Vivid, poetic rock by Biffy Clyro
Two years after "Puzzle", which brought Biffy Clyro all the joys of mainstream success, the three Scotsmen release their fifth album, "Only Revolutions".
One of the most striking aspects of the group is the highly literary nature of their lyrics. On "The Captain", Simon Neil sings: "Help me be captain of our crippled disguises"... and there is no doubt that much more poetics lie on the horizon! Sound-wise, the group is a blend of Nirvana-esque energy (such as on the track "That Golden Rule") and well-made pop melodies in the style of Rush (for example, "Bubbles").
This album is marked by the sound of hope. There is a sense that Biffy Clyro have found the light at the end of the tunnel, having emerged from the period of their somewhat gloomy last album.
