My Sassy Girl : a pale imitation
Charlie (Jesse Bradford), a serious 20-year-old student, has a chance encounter in the New York subway with Jordan (Elisha Cuthbert), who is very pretty and very drunk. A bond forms between them, but one that is wrought with challenges and provocations. Jordan, a wealthy doctor's daughter, is not just a spoilt little rich girl, but also suffers from a real mental imbalance. "Sometimes, love is worth it" (according to the slogan of this slushy romantic comedy)!
After scoring a hit with "Love me if you dare" in 2003, Yann Samuell re-engages with the theme of dangerous love, but unsuccessfully. In fact, "My Sassy Girl" is just another disappointing remake from an industry short on ideas. The original 2001 Korean film is copied wholesale from start to finish, but sweetened up (for the worse) at strategic moments. And the bonuses? Silly commentaries and a disappointing set of howlers.
