Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End

The trilogy is now complete; the third installment of Pirates of the Caribbean titled At World's End premiered on Wednesday, May 23 all around the world, including Egypt!

Elizabeth (Keira Knightly), Will (Orlando Bloom), and Captain Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) rescue Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) from the the Kraken, but now they must face their enemies, Davey Jones (Bill Nighy) and Lord Cutler Beckett (Tom Hollander).

Beckett, now with control of Jones' heart, forms a dark alliance with him in order to rule the seas and wipe out the last of the Pirates. Now, Jack, Barbossa, Will, Elizabeth, Tia Delma, and crew must call the Pirate Lords from the four corners of the globe, including the infamous Sao Feng (Chow-Yun Fat), to a gathering that will make their final stand against Beckett, Jones, Norrington, the Flying Dutchman, and the entire East India Trading Company.

Lasting nearly three hours, At World's End (which was filmed back to back with Dead Man's Chest) is definitely more complex than its two predecessors. While it does drag a little bit - just a little bit - at some points, the increased number of characters makes it a little hard to follow the plots, to the point where I just decided not to focus so much on it, and just enjoy the witty dialogues and entertaining action.

Johnny Depp is as brilliant as ever representing Jack Sparrow and the big surprise is a cameo appearance by Keith Richards, the Rolling Stones' legendary guitarist, and the person on whom Depp based his portrayal of Jack Sparrow.

The CGI work is just breathtaking, especially the final battle scenes out at sea - they've really outdone themselves. Bloom and Knightley do a good job playing the golden heroic couple, and Geoffrey Rush's Barbossa is well developed in this installment.

Will there or will there not be a fourth sequel, that is the question. Some loose ends have been left dragging, so they might do a fourth one after all.

All in all, this is a good movie offering great action, funny dialogue and impressive CGI work; well worth watching at the theater as the effects have to be experience big and strong.
