Cher finally confirmed rumors in a recent interview that she dated Tom in the early 80s, before he became involved with Scientology.
She said: "I did date him. He was just the most adorable man you can imagine. He wasn't into Scientology then. I don't understand the whole Scientology thing.
"My ex-husband, Sonny Bono, was a Scientologist too and I didn't understand it then."
Cher, who is 61, has also revealed she is on the look out for a new man, but insists it isn't her number one priority in life.
She said: "I'm not really looking. Men just fall in your lap, you stub your toe on them. It just happens. I'm looking for someone who can make me laugh, who I think is cute and that still wants to go and do stupid things."

Cher and Sonny Bono divorced in 1974 after 10 years of marriage. She then tied the knot with musician Gregg Allman, but the pair separated after four years.
Cher has also been romantically linked with actor Val Kilmer, Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora and Michael Bolton.
Cher who claimed she would never perform live again after her 2005 'Farewell Tour' is coming out retirement to play a series of sensational Las Vegas shows has signed a deal reportedly worth more than 100 million dollars for a three-year residency at Caesars Palace hotel.
Cher said: "It is going to be a visually unbelievable show with brilliant choreography. Our set moves down from the ceiling, in from the sides, up from the floor. We have screens in the foreground, the centre and the back. We can change a city into a forest in two seconds. You'll see a different stage for every song."
