Warda booed by Egyptian football enthusiasts over her support to Algerians
In a swift response to statements by Warda supporting the Algerian football national team in its World Cup qualification efforts, some Egyptian football enthusiasts are calling for a boycott of the diva.
Warda, Algerian but based and active in Egypt for decades and mainly singing in Egyptian dialect, asked her national team to deal a defeat to Egyptians.
She added that Algerians have better odds to qualify.
Feeling betrayed with Warda’s outspoken identification with her compatriots, some users of Facebook groups went as far as praising the late president Nasser for allegedly deporting her from Egypt in the wake of 1967 military defeat. It was rumored at the time the she had an affair with the loathed Field Marshal Abdel Hakim Amer.
