Egypt-Iraq agreement on completion of power linkage

Egypt and Iraq agreed to continue with the project of power linkage as part of the dual power linkage of the Arab Mashreq and Arab Maghreb countries, which is regarded as the most gigantic project for power linkage in the Middle East and in order to open Arab common market for the trade of energy and to meet the needs of Iraq in electricity needed for reconstruction.
Hassan Younis, Electricity and Energy Minister, said he had talks with Karim Wahid, Iraqi Electricity Minister on the sidelines of the meetings of Egypt-Iraq joint committee on means to promote cooperation by the two countries in the field of power linkage.
Younis stressed Egypt’s support for cooperation with Iraq for the reconstruction of the Arab country.
An agreement reached as well on the exchange of expertise and information over a number of fields including the assessment of renewable energy, especially of wind and its effect on the power grid.
The Iraqi Electricity Minister said his country is badly in need of the Egyptian experts in all fields and is seeking to encourage Egyptian investors to operate in the Iraqi market and they will receive all possible facilities.
All fields in Iraq are open before Egyptian firms to effectively contribute in building the power network.
