Egypt mobile subscribers reach 51.47 m, up by 27% in 8 months

Arab Finance: Mobile subscribers’ number in the first eight months of 2009 reached 51.47 million, representing an increase of 27 %; compared to 37.626 million in the same period of 2008.
According to the latest indicators of Ministry of Telecommunication and Information Technology, Egyptian Company for Mobile Services (Mobinil) acquires 23.76 million subscribers, representing 46.1 % of Egypt’s mobile market, while Vodafone Egypt obtained 21.53 million subscribers, representing 41.8 % and Etisalat Egypt 6.172 million subscribers representing about 12 % of total subscribers’ number; and an increase of 4.2 % from its market share in the first eight months of 2008.
In a related context, Eng. Yasser Radwan, Commercial Manager of Mobinil, expected that Egypt’s mobile market will continue increasing in the coming three years, until it reaches saturation by 100 %, adding that the current direction leads market players to expanding on providing both data transfer and added value services, which are not related to voice services.
He pointed out that; competition in the coming period will not be limited to traditional voice or SMS services only, but also data, voice, pictures and mobile TV services which will be the future of company’s revenues.
