How to Make Hair Color Last Longer

How to Make Hair Color Last Longer

Color treated hair requires special care.  For the color to stay beautiful for a long time, you need to follow a specific regimen.  First of all, you must use products specially designed for tinted hair.  They contain a lot of moisturizing agents and do not weigh the hair down.

The formula often includes glycerin and panthenol which prevent moisture loss and brittleness.  Shampoos for color treated hair also contain proteins and vitamins to close cuticle scales left open after tinting, to restore shine and slow down the process of rinsing the pigment out of the hair shaft.  Also, they neutralize left over hydrogen peroxide, a component of all hair bleaches.  We recommend Pantene Pro-V Colorshine shampoos and conditioners:  the B5 pro-vitamin (Panthenol) they contain moisturizes and smoothes the hair, simultaneously repairing the cuticle.

Caring for color treated hair requires special skills.  Rinse the hair first with lukewarm and then cold water.  After shampooing with an appropriate product, apply a conditioner for color treated hair:  it will strengthen hair weakened by the treatment and improve internal moisture content.  Gently tap dry with a towel and avoid overheating with a dryer so that scales remain tight and the pigment does not wash out prematurely.

To keep the color for a long time, avoid direct sunlight and wind by covering your head.  If the drinking water contains too much chlorine, consider installing a shower filter.  Chlorinated water washes out the color much faster and makes subsequent coloring harder.  Before swimming in a pool with chlorinated water, wet your hair with mineral water:  mineral water dissolves chlorine and prevents it from settling on the hair.

Use natural hairbrushes and brush your hair with gentle strokes to avoid damaging its structure.  Remember, color treated hair has been weakened and demands very gentle handling.  If you follow the above advice, cuticle scales will stay tight and the hair will be less porous, giving you more shine and a longer lasting color.
